Casa de las Hermanas Cárdenas
Located in the busy Plaza Vieja is the popular Casa de las Hermanas Cárdenas, a building inaugurated in the 17th century and socially recognized for having resided in it the blessed María Loreto and María Ignacia Cárdenas y Santa Cruz, daughters of Agustín de Cárdenas. Vélez, Marquis of Cárdenas de Monte Hermoso; which held famous gatherings in their residence for the Havana aristocracy of the time.
This property was also owned for some years by the Philharmonic Society and in the middle of the last century it was found to be in a lamentable state of conservation. In 1984 it received an exhaustive restoration by the Department of Monuments of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage, being inaugurated again in 1989 as the Center for the Development of Visual Arts, in charge of promoting plastic works and coordinating exhibitions of Cubans in other countries and vice versa. .
In this installation the National Contemporary Art Salon is held every year.
